After another good night's sleep we headed off around 9.20. We decided to visit a castle, a castle with a moat and Winston Churchill's estate.
We got to Hever castle to find the grounds don't open till 10.30 and the castle not till 12o'clock. So we decided to go to Chartwell, churchill's place.
That didn't open till 11 but by this time we decided to wait.
I think we could settle in that house quite comfortably. Lovely place, lovely views, heaps of books and quite homely with lovely grounds. Couldn't take inside pics.
From there we decided to go north to find Rochester and Chatham to look at the dock areas. Passed where the Eurostar train leaves from to go to Paris. Also found a pub with an all day carvery for 3pound 50p per person. Great value.
Found the Royal Navy Historic Dockyards. Again another huge place. It must have been quite a hive of activity in it's hay day. This week is a half break for the schools and so there were pirate things happening and lots of kids. We wished we had got there earlier as we still had to find somewhere for overnight.
After giving up on trying to find a tourist place, and getting into peak traffic again, we stumbled onto a hotel (modern) and had to pay whatever price. By this stage we didn't care we just needed somewhere to put our heads.
The rooms are quite warm and they don't have air con just a pedestal fan and I slept with no sheet or anything over me. It is also very warm this morning so will be glad to get out to the fresh air.

Wed 27th May
We decided to try to find a shop to buy a map. We finally ended up at Horsham (very different to our's) It was raining but not too cold.
We discovered how easy it is to get lost and totally lose any idea of direction. We found a map but even that didn't help heaps as we still couldn't work out which direction we were heading in.
When we thought we were heading east we found ourselves west, then north west and heading further away from where we intended to go. We ended up near Hampton Court Palace around 2pm.
WOW what a place. It is enormous. The grounds are large and and magnificent. The palace itself amazing. So many rooms and everything on a grand scale. Quite awesome. We walked for 3 hours and could still have stayed longer although we were extremely tired by now.
We were trying to get to Kingston on Thames when we found Hampton Court so after leaving there literally went around the corner to Kingston on Thames. Owen grew up there until they emmigrated. Then we had to find our way home from there and of course it was peak time.
We finally arrived back around 7pm very tired. We ended up doing about 450km. (not what we intended) Went to dinner and then back to bed.

We have arrived and have started touring
Hi everyone,
Well we have arrived but haven't had the time or inclination to write to the blog till now.
We had a good flight, long but broken up with a fuel stop at Singapore for 90mins and then off at Dubai for 3hours. All 3 legs of the flight were quite smooth but we were very happy to get off at Gatwick, London. Owen went through the UK line and I went through the other one and then found out we could have gone through together. We headed off to customs and went through a door and that was it. No customs people that we even saw. Bit of a let down really as I was expecting very different.
In Aus, Owen went off at the security gate because he forgot to take out his phone, but at Singapore and Dubai it was me who beeped. I got frised at Singapore and at Dubai I was taken into a cubicle to have the machine run over me. I wonder now if it was the wire in my bra.
Anyway after finally finding out where to go to get our car and heading off we got to our destination easily and it was as the picture showed but of course that wasn't where our room was. We were in another building to the side but at this stage we didn't care.
We had a shower and went to bed at 3.30 for a nap. Ha! We woke up at 10.45. Then nodded off again until about 5am. Both of us had swollen feet, but not too bad. We went for a walk and then headed off for breakfast. We were very ready for it by then.

Practising
Have spent a lot of time on the blogger site today trying to learn a bit more about it so I don't have too many troubles whilst away. Hope you are able to view it ok.
It is now Friday evening 22nd May and we leave Monday 25th. Our flight is 6.10pm and we have to be at the airport 3 hours before.
I am going to unpack my suitcase and re pack it to make sure I have all I need or some I don't need. We are able to take 30kg each but between the two of us the suitcases only weight 34kg. So room to be able to bring home extra in an extra bag maybe! :0) (haven't mentioned that one to Owen yet).
We are babysitting our "Macka" tonight so will go now and the next posting should be from England. Our first two nights are at http://www.deverevenues.co.uk/find-venue/hartsfield-manor.html . We wanted to stay somewhere nice for our first couple of nights.
